Inspired by the powerful aesthetics of Dutch port areas, the work 'Glowing Industries' was created in the late 1990s. Over two decades later, a new imperative is prompting a return to the conversion of industrial sites.
The expansion of renewable energies, the energy transition away from fossil fuels and the reduction of CO2 emissions are making many industrial structures obsolete.
The conversion into different usages seems plausible.
The industrial buildings proposed for conversion are all located in Germany, some in Berlin's Westhafen, some along the tracks to Hamburg and Munich.
The conversion saves the buildings from demolition, the gray energy is preserved - a contribution to a sustainable future.
